Venezuela predicts tourism growth of 80% by end of 2025
Nicolas Maduro called tourism one of the “engines” of growth and advocated for upgrading the skills of industry workers
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced a sharp increase in the tourist flow to Margarita Island in the state of Nueva Esparta this year. He predicts the number of foreign visitors will increase by 80 per cent compared to the previous year. This is reported by Venezolana de Televisión, a partner of TV BRICS.
Maduro emphasised that tourism is one of the 13 “engines of productivity” of the country’s economy and is already taking root in the national development strategy. Tourism creates jobs and stimulates economic activity, contributing to the growth of other financial sectors of the country.
The national leader said that in order to develop tourism, it is important to train and improve the qualifications of Venezuelans. “This must be a person who specialises in tourism, who also knows his country, loves it, and knows how to present its history,” Maduro added.
Government projections suggest that Margarita’s achievements could serve as a blueprint for other Venezuelan regions looking to build the infrastructure and training programs needed to welcome tourists.
