Indonesia records steady rise in international tourism arrivals

Growing arrivals from Malaysia and China support Indonesia’s tourism revenue and domestic travel expansion in early 2026

Indonesia’s tourism industry continues to demonstrate positive momentum, with rising international arrivals and increasing visitor expenditure contributing to the sector’s development, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated in the ministry’s Monthly Performance Report.

According to data from Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics, the country welcomed 1.25 million foreign tourists in April 2026, representing a 7.22 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2025. During the first four months of the year, international tourist arrivals reached 4.68 million, up 8.24 per cent year-on-year from 4.33 million visits recorded in the corresponding period last year.

Malaysia accounted for the largest share of international visitors in April with 207,957 arrivals, followed by China with 133,986. This was reported by ANTARA.

According to the source, tourism revenues in the first quarter of 2026 reached US$4.05 billion, marking a 6.30 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Domestic tourism also maintained stable growth, with 417.06 million domestic trips recorded by April 2026, reflecting a 1.48 per cent annual increase.

The government is continuing to advance long-term tourism development through sustainable practices and support programmes for local communities and businesses. In addition, the Karisma Event Nusantara 2026 programme will support 125 curated events across Indonesia, encouraging regional tourism growth and the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
