Vietnam aims to have at least five higher education institutions among the world's top 500 universities by 2030

The Vietnamese government recently has approved the "Education Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045". This is reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

The strategy aims for Vientnam to become one of the top four Southeast Asian countries and one of the top 10 Asian countries with leading higher education systems. Experts emphasise that to achieve these goals, innovative and effective solutions must be implemented to improve universities' position in international rankings.

Nguyen Vinh San from Da Nang University, notes the progress made in recent years, linking it to efforts to improve the quality of teaching and research. He emphasises the growing presence of Vietnamese universities in world rankings and the improvement of their positions.

San advocated prioritising investment in educational institutions with high potential, giving them autonomy to lead the development of higher education in Vietnam. He cited examples of successful development of world-class universities in China. 

Key strategies include attracting and developing internationally qualified teachers and researchers, providing capacity building opportunities and encouraging international publications.
