Ethiopia drives regional medical education growth across African continent

Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, hosted African medical practitioners undergoing speciality training in Ethiopia, underlining the country’s commitment to expanding continental cooperation in healthcare education and professional development. The meeting brought together physicians from several African states currently pursuing advanced clinical training in Ethiopian institutions.

Prime Minister noted that he met with 128 medical practitioners from Rwanda, alongside more than 400 healthcare professionals from across the continent. According to him, the initiative reflects the increasing interest of African specialists in Ethiopia’s postgraduate medical education programmes.

Abiy Ahmed Ali emphasised that the participants represent a new generation of African doctors developing the expertise required to address the continent’s evolving healthcare challenges. He stated that cooperation in education and knowledge exchange remains essential for strengthening medical systems and improving healthcare access throughout Africa.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister also stressed the importance of collective learning among African professionals, as reported by Fana Media Corporation, a partner of TV BRICS.

"Through shared learning and purpose, we continue building a healthier Africa together," he said.

According to experts, Ethiopia has continued to expand its network of public medical universities and referral hospitals, reinforcing the country’s position as a regional hub for advanced clinical training and speciality education.
