Vietnam and India are stepping up efforts to deepen cooperation in the textile, leather and footwear industries, with a focus on strengthening connectivity, innovation and integrated value chains, reports VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor to India, Bui Trung Thuong, highlighted the strong complementarities between the two economies. He noted that both countries are well positioned within global textile and footwear value chains, particularly as industries worldwide shift towards sustainability and digitalisation.

Experts emphasised that closer cooperation could support the development of integrated production networks, enhance product value and create new opportunities in trade, investment and technology exchange, reports the source.

Special attention is paid to the silk sector, where experts point to significant potential for cooperation in areas such as breeding technology, skill development, and innovation in the production of high-quality products. The expansion of the sphere of silk application beyond textiles, including in the production of modern materials, is also considered a promising direction.

From an investment perspective, experts underline that the two economies offer complementary strengths. Vietnam continues to build its position in garment manufacturing, while India provides a strong base in raw materials and textile inputs, creating favourable conditions for joint ventures and supply chain integration.

Representatives of research institutions also recently called for deeper scientific cooperation, including joint projects, knowledge exchange and expanded training programmes. Strengthening participation in international industry platforms is also highlighted as a priority.
