Zimbabwean students go to China for advanced training in mechatronics

Thirty-two students from the Mechatronics Department of Harare Polytechnic have travelled to China to participate in the Applied Talent Joint Teaching Programme (ATJTP) in China's Ningbo Polytechnic. The initiative marks an important step in the institute's quest for international cooperation in the field of education. This is reported by New Ziana.

The Harare Polytechnic hosted a send-off ceremony for the students. Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister Frederick Shava, whose speech was read on his behalf by his deputy Simelisizwe Sibanda, urged the students to seize the opportunity to acquire advanced skills in mechatronics.

"Your training in China will expose you to the latest technological advancements. I encourage you to be dedicated and bring back expertise that will contribute to Zimbabwe's Vision [to become an upper middle income economy by – ed.] 2030," he said.

Students will complete a dual certification programme, spending 12 months at Harare Polytechnic and 18-24 months at Ningbo Polytechnic. At the end of their training, they will receive a national certificate in Millwrights from the Harare Polytechnic and a Diploma in Mechatronics from Ningbo Polytechnic.
