27 Egyptian universities enter world ranking of best academic institutions

Egypt has reinforced its position in the field of higher education, with 27 of its universities included in the global ranking of top academic institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year. This was reported by  Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohamed Ayman Ashour, the progress of Egyptian universities reflects the effectiveness of the government’s strategy in scientific and educational fields.

This year, 22 Egyptian universities were ranked among the top 1,000 universities in the world. Cairo University remains the national leader, securing 248th place globally. Also featured in the ranking are Alexandria University, Ain Shams University, and Al-Azhar University.

The ranking was based on four main criteria: academic reputation, scientific output, research impact, and international collaboration. Scientific publication influence accounted for 50 per cent of the overall evaluation.

The growing presence of Egyptian universities in international rankings has been made possible by a comprehensive approach that ranges from increased access to scientific resources through the Egyptian Knowledge Bank to the adoption of innovations in educational processes. These efforts align with the objectives of the national "Vision 2030" plan for sustainable development.
