Belarus launches production of construction materials from recycled plastic

A new facility in Belarus is transforming plastic waste into construction products for urban infrastructure and landscaping projects

A new production line for construction materials made from recycled plastic has been launched in the Belarusian city of Brest. The facility, operating at the local waste processing plant, is capable of producing up to 1,000 tonnes of finished products per day, including paving tiles, kerbs, and utility hatches. A separate workshop was built to support the expansion of the environmentally orientated project.

The initiative is aimed at increasing the efficient use of recyclable materials and reducing the volume of plastic waste sent to landfill sites. Recycled plastic now serves as the main raw material for the production process, alongside sand and other components used in polymer-sand construction materials, reports Belteleradiocompany, a partner of TV BRICS.

A representative of the Brest waste processing plant explained that the manufacturing process includes drying sand, mixing it with recycled raw materials and heating the resulting mass to 250 degrees Celsius before moulding begins. According to him, the production ratio consists of 40 per cent sand and 60 per cent recycled plastic material.

The new workshop currently produces up to 350 finished items per hour. In addition to paving tiles and kerbs, the plant manufactures components for engineering infrastructure systems. Specialists are also developing new products for urban road networks, including artificial road humps and traffic separators.

Head of department at the Brest waste processing plant Anna Kreidich noted that polymer-sand materials demonstrate strong moisture resistance and durability. She added that the products maintain their appearance and operational qualities under changing weather conditions while remaining visually comparable to traditional construction materials.

The first batches of recycled construction products are expected to be used at waste collection sites and in urban improvement projects across Brest. The facility also plans to expand its product range in the future, creating additional opportunities for large-scale application of recycled materials in municipal infrastructure development.
