Brazil secure sixth South American Women’s U-17 championship title
Unbeaten campaign confirms Brazil’s leadership in continental youth women’s football
Brazil’s women’s under-17 national football team has won the South American U-17 Women's Championship, securing the country’s sixth continental title in the category. The final took place at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion, Paraguay.
According to Agência Brasil, the title marks the first continental triumph. Brazil completed the tournament unbeaten, recording five victories and one draw, with 21 goals scored and only six conceded throughout the competition.
Brazil has now lifted the South American U-17 Women’s trophy in 2010, 2012, 2018, 2022, 2024 and 2026, extending their record as the most successful team in the tournament’s history. Paraguay and Colombia have each won the competition once, while Venezuela are two-time champions.
Qualification for the final also secured Brazil a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Morocco later this year.
The source earlier reported that Brazilian judokas won three more medals on the final day of the Grand Slam tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing the national team’s total to seven podium finishes. Guilherme Schimidt secured silver in the men’s -90kg category after reaching his first international final since moving up from -81kg, while Beatriz Freitas claimed bronze in the women’s -78kg division and Leonardo Goncalves added another bronze in the men’s -100kg event.
