Zimbabwe and Belarus expand sports cooperation through new agreement

Zimbabwe and Belarus have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in the sports sector and expanding opportunities for athlete development. The agreement was formalised in Minsk by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Anselem Sanyatwe, and Belarusian Sports and Tourism Minister Sergey Kovalchuk, reports Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), a partner of TV BRICS.

The partnership includes collaboration in a range of disciplines, including tennis, football, swimming, and athletics. Under the agreement, Zimbabwean athletes and sports officials are expected to gain access to advanced training facilities, technical expertise and international exchange programmes in Belarus.

Minister Anselem Sanyatwe described the initiative as an important step for the development of Zimbabwean sport, noting that it would create new opportunities for specialised coaching, knowledge sharing and international exposure. Belarusian officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting joint sports programmes and strengthening ties between the two countries.

Both sides are also exploring the organisation of training camps, skills development initiatives and joint competitions.

Furthermore, during the visit, Minister Sanyatwe toured the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, where he reviewed modern sports infrastructure and training systems. Officials noted that cooperation in sports is expected to contribute to broader cultural and bilateral engagement between Zimbabwe and Belarus.
