China hosts media tour for international journalists

Participants deepened their knowledge of Chinese culture and history

A group of international journalists and influencers met at the Confucius Temple in Qufu, East China's Shandong Province, as part of the international media tour "A Date with China 2024 – Meet Shandong". The participants were able to delve into the rich history and cultural significance of this ancient place. This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

Their visit began with a gate-opening performance, followed by a visit to a solemn ceremony to commemorate Confucius and learning to perform the "yiwu", a dance form used in rites in ancient China.

Confucius (551-479 BC) was the first Chinese to establish public schools and enrol students from all walks of life. His students collected many of his sayings and quotes and compiled them into a book known in English as the Analects, which continues to have a profound influence on Chinese culture and society.

Every 28 September, Confucius' birthday is celebrated at the Confucius Temple in Qufu, his hometown. In 2006, the Confucius Temple rite was recognised as a national-level intangible cultural heritage.
