China's Foreign Ministry: BRICS mechanism emerging as backbone of Global South cooperation

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Beijing is determined to develop cooperation within the association

BRICS is becoming a key mechanism of partnership between the countries of the Global South. This is reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS, referring to the press conference of Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun.

He commented thus on the journalists‘ question about the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on 28-29 April.

"Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi will exchange views with various parties on BRICS cooperation, current international and regional landscape, and other issues of common concerns, and make preparations for the 17th BRICS Summit"

Guo Jiakun Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman

The diplomat said the BRICS partnership has emerged against the backdrop of the historic rise of developing countries and reflects the international community's aspirations for peace, sustainable development and equitable global governance.

The upcoming meeting will be the first since the expansion of the association, with Indonesia becoming a full member in January 2025 and nine states being granted partner status.

Guo Jiakun said China is ready to work with other members to build an even more comprehensive, close, practical and inclusive partnership.
