Ethiopia launches active development of artificial intelligence and expansion of applied research
The country is also creating the right conditions for the development of start-ups and the implementation of its own digital solutions
Ethiopia is expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and developing applied science. This was announced by the Minister for Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, at a national conference marking the 50th anniversary of the development of science, research and digitalisation in the country, according to Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the minister, over the past five years, targeted investments have helped Ethiopia move from adapting foreign technologies to creating its own solutions. At the same time, the authorities are establishing a legislative framework to support start-ups and the development of new technology projects.
These changes are also affecting the education system. The use of digital tools is expanding in the country’s schools, which, according to the Minister of Education, Berhanu Nega, will help prepare a new generation of specialists capable of working at an international level.
Furthermore, Ethiopia is developing new sectors, including the bioeconomy and the space industry. In this way, the country is seeking to expand its scientific and technological capabilities and utilise them for further economic development.
