Egypt’s food industry posts record exports amid rising production and investment

Government initiatives and expanding capacities drive growth in Egypt’s agri-food sector

The Egyptian Cabinet’s media centre has released a series of infographics highlighting a marked improvement in the country’s food industry. The data underline sustained progress driven by modernised production lines, adherence to international quality standards, and targeted state financing programmes designed to strengthen companies’ operational capacity and export potential. As reported Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

Rising exports have become a defining feature of the sector. According to a leading international credit rating agency, Egypt is emerging as a major hub for food exports across the Middle East and North Africa. The agency also highlighted the processed foods segment, which saw exports exceed US$6 billion in 2024, marking the highest level in the industry’s history.

Annual growth figures further underscore the momentum. Food industry exports rose by 43.2 per cent between 2021/2022 and 2024/2025, reaching US$6.3 billion. This increase reflects a combination of investment in production, improved efficiency, and the opening of new international markets, confirming the government’s objective of maximising the country’s export potential.

In 2025, domestic production reached notable volumes across multiple categories, including 10.03 million tonnes of cereals, 189,800 tonnes of legumes, 17.77 million tonnes of sugar crops, 8.78 million tonnes of vegetables, 600,000 tonnes of red meat, 2.5 million tonnes of white meat, 7 million tonnes of fresh milk, 16 billion table eggs, and 2.03 million tonnes of fish.
