Ethiopia earns US$908 million from coffee exports in last six months

This was possible due to a significant increase in production and productivity in the industry

ECTA Deputy Director General Shafi Umer said the country exported more than 200,000 tonnes of coffee in last six months , which was made possible by a significant increase in production and productivity in the industry. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Shafi Umer said Ethiopia's coffee industry has undergone extensive reforms in recent years to improve product quality, production and efficiency.

Thanks to the efforts of the government and stakeholders, the country has not only met but also exceeded targets. The original target for the half year was $714 million from the export of 133,000 tonnes of coffee.

At the end of the last fiscal year, Ethiopia, the home of Arabica, earned over US$1.4 billion from coffee exports. In the current fiscal year, the country plans to increase its earnings to US$2 billion by exporting more than 400,000 tonnes of coffee.
