India gears up for grand celebration of International Day of Yoga
The tenth edition will focus on women empowerment
As part of the celebrations, India has launched a booklet on yoga therapy and organised five-day practices at various iconic locations in Delhi.
It is also planning to organise health camps in northeast India, distribute kits and conduct yoga awareness drives in nursing homes and hospitals.
Bhavna Saxena, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, emphasised that women empowerment is a holistic concept which includes economic and spiritual aspects. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
Ayush is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy. Ayurveda is the oldest system with a documented history of its practice for more than 5000 years whereas Homoeopathy is in practice in India for around 100 years.
The International Day of Yoga, an age-old discipline originating in India, is celebrated every year on June 21 since its proclamation in 2014 by the United Nations to recognise the universal popularity of this traditional discipline and to raise awareness about its benefits to the body and mind.
