India sets new target to triple its textile exports by 2030

The textile sector attracted more than 120,000 trade visitors from over 120 countries

India has outlined a bold vision to expand its textile exports from the current US$34.5 billion to US$103.5 billion by 2030. The strategy focuses on strengthening domestic manufacturing, modernising infrastructure, and expanding global market reach, according to the Indian Ministry of Textiles. This is reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

As the world's sixth-largest textile exporter, India accounted for 8.21 per cent of its total exports in the 2023-24 financial year. The sector holds a 4.5 per cent share in global trade.

The recently concluded Bharat Tex 2025, hosted in New Delhi, played a pivotal role in advancing the government's "Farm to Fibre, Fabric, Fashion, and Foreign Markets" initiative. Spanning 2.2 million square feet, it featured over 5,000 exhibitors and attracted more than 120,000 trade visitors from over 120 countries, including top executives, policymakers, and industry leaders.

The textile sector remains one of India's largest employment generators, directly employing over 45 million people and supporting the livelihoods of over 100 million individuals, particularly women and rural workers. With a blend of industrial-scale manufacturing and artisanal craftsmanship, the industry contributes significantly to the economy while preserving traditional textile heritage.
