Indonesia and Brazil agree to strengthen cooperation in scientific research and innovation

Officials of the two countries discussed joint programmes benefiting from the strengths each side possesses

Indonesia and Brazil have announced their intention to enhance cooperation in scientific research, academic exchange and university partnerships, following the meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and Brazil’s Deputy Ambassador to Jakarta, Rodrigo Carvalho.

According to ANTARA, citing Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, both sides underlined the opportunities available in the fields of science, technology, biodiversity, energy, and health innovations.

In this context, Indonesia’s minister, Brian Yuliarto, said that Indonesia seeks to establish broader international partnerships to develop talent and promote strategic research. He added, “We see many opportunities, particularly in science and technology human resources. We want universities to collaborate more broadly.”

Yuliarto noted that Indonesian universities are expanding their global networks, including with Brazil, which has strong capabilities in research and innovation.

For his part, Brazil’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia affirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation in higher education. He said, “We aim to increase Brazilian universities’ involvement in research and academic exchanges with Indonesia.”

Officials of the two countries also discussed joint programmes that benefit from each side’s strengths, emphasising the potential for practical cooperation between universities and research institutions.

BRICS countries are strengthening scientific and academic cooperation through the signing of memoranda of understanding between universities and research institutions in these countries. These agreements aim to promote research partnerships between academic institutions and exchange expertise in the fields of science and technology, with a focus on renewable energy, medical biology and innovation in future industries.

Malaysian National News Agency BERNAMA, a media partner of TV BRICS, reported that Malaysia and China have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between educational institutions in academic, research, and cultural fields.

According to the agency, the memorandum marks the beginning of a new chapter of educational cooperation between educational institutions in Malaysia and China, opening up new prospects for students and academics in both countries.

In a related context, Sada El-Balad, a media partner of TV BRICS, reported that Egypt and the UAE have signed a strategic partnership agreement to develop technical education in Egypt, through a letter of intent signed between Egypt’s Ministry of Education and the Emirates Digital School.

Brazil and South Africa have also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in basic education. According to the Brazilian government’s official website, the signing ceremony was attended by Brazil’s Minister of Education Camilo Santana and South Africa’s Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube, and the document aims to establish a systematic exchange of expertise to improve the quality of school education.
