Indonesia exports frozen tuna fillets from eastern province of Maluku to Thailand for first time
The provincial authorities have described this shipment as an important step for the region, as it opens up opportunities to boost seafood exports
Indonesia has made its first shipment of frozen tuna fillets from the province of Maluku to Thailand. The consignment weighed 11 tonnes and was valued at over US$55,710, according to ANTARA.
The first consignment was dispatched from the port of Yos Sudarso in Ambon following the receipt of the Fish Product Quality and Safety Certificate (SMKHP), issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
The authorities emphasised that it was the presence of this certificate that enabled the first consignment to be sent to Thailand. The document confirms that the products comply with international food safety requirements. In particular, the standards comply with the Codex Alimentarius, which serves as a global benchmark for food quality control.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries also stated that there are plans to strengthen quality control at all stages of the supply chain – from fishing to processing and packaging – in order to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian seafood, encourage product diversification and expand the list of importing countries.
