Indonesia eyes leadership in Southeast Asia's AI landscape through robust digital growth
Indonesia is setting its sights on becoming a regional powerhouse in artificial intelligence (AI), fuelled by a rapidly expanding digital economy. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, recently expressed confidence in the country's potential to lead AI innovation in Southeast Asia, particularly as its digital economy surges forward.
Currently the second-largest recipient of digital investment in ASEAN, Indonesia’s digital sector is expected to hit US$90 billion by 2024. The nation’s e-commerce market alone commands 40 per cent of the ASEAN market share, valued at US$77 billion in 2023.
With AI gaining traction in key regions such as Jakarta, East Kalimantan, and the Riau Islands, Indonesia is laying the foundation for a dynamic, sustainable AI ecosystem.
To solidify its global competitiveness, Indonesia is prioritising advancements in AI, research, and innovation, alongside fostering multi-sector collaborations, ensuring it can harness these technologies for both local and international growth, as reported by the source.
