Indonesia to begin construction of seven eco-friendly power plants in 2026
According to the national plan, the number of plants is set to increase to 33 by 2029
Indonesia will begin work in 2026 on seven power plants operating on the processing of solid municipal waste. These facilities will dispose of up to 12,000 tonnes of material per day and generate around 197.4 megawatts of electricity. This was reported by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
The government has approved seven regions for the implementation of the first phase of the project, including the areas of Greater Denpasar, Greater Medan and Greater Semarang. The construction will be financed through the state investment fund.
As stated by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, the project is aimed not only at energy generation but also at improving the environmental situation in tourist centres. According to Hartarto, the creation of cities free from landfill sites directly contributes to the development of tourism.
The construction of the seven facilities is part of a large-scale national programme to establish 33 waste-to-energy plants by 2029. This initiative is set out in a decree by the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto.
