Iran increases tea exports thanks to growth in production and quality control

Head of Iran Tea Organisation Habib Jahansaz, stated an increase in tea exports from the country. In the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year, exports rose by 48 per cent compared to the same period last year, reaching 9.8 million tonnes of high-quality tea worth US$12 million. This was reported by Mehr News Agency , a partner of TV BRICS. 

Habib Jahansaz emphasised that these successes were the result of continuous inspections and decisive measures taken by the organisation to support national tea producers and farmers. Effective steps were also taken to prevent tea imports into the country.

"With the incessant follow-ups, drastic measures were taken to support tea growers and farmers in the country," noted Habib Jahansaz. 

The chairman claimed that an increase in domestic tea production, including green and herbal teas, could increase Iran's share of the global tea market.

Earlier this year, Iran has exported 13.000 tonnes of tea worth US$17 million, with Russia and India being the main buyers. Iranian tea has gained international recognition for its high quality and complete absence of pesticides in production, making it a benchmark for non-commodity exports.
