Kazakhstan becomes second-largest supplier of sunflower oil to China
Growing exports and improved logistics strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the Chinese vegetable oil market
Kazakhstan ranked second among suppliers of sunflower oil to China in 2025, accounting for 36 per cent of total deliveries. According to Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
The source stated that exports of Kazakhstan’s oil and fat products to China increased by 44 per cent over the year, reaching 440,000 tonnes. Export revenue also grew, rising by 37 per cent to US$312 million.
According to experts, the growth in shipments has been supported by improvements in logistics. Since early 2024, a pilot project has been implemented to organise the transshipment of vegetable oil through the Dostyk–Alashankou border crossing, improving the coordination of export shipments to China.
As a result, the fulfilment rate of export shipment plans in the Chinese direction has exceeded 90 per cent, compared with less than 40 per cent recorded in 2023. The improved logistics system has contributed to the steady expansion of trade flows between the two countries.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan also reported that in March this year the National Oilseed Processors Association and Kazakhstan’s national railway network launched a pilot coordination mechanism for exporting pelleted sunflower meal in grain wagons to China. The initiative builds on the logistics model previously introduced for vegetable oil deliveries.
