Oman boosts honey production by 138%

Honey production in Oman’s Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded significant growth in 2025, with total output reaching 97.8 tonnes, compared to 41 tonnes in 2024 and 56.3 tonnes in 2023. The increase highlights the expanding role of beekeeping in supporting local economic development and food security initiatives.

The number of beekeepers in the governorate also rose to 1,054, managing a total of 24,862 beehives. The figures reflect growing interest in the sector and ongoing efforts to strengthen honey production through scientific approaches and sustainable agricultural practices, reports Al-Shabiba, a partner of TV BRICS.

Beekeepers in the governorate are increasingly expanding into related industries, including the production of beeswax and pollen, the sale of bee colonies and queen bees, as well as the manufacture of aromatic and cosmetic products such as soaps and creams. Producers are also developing medicinal honey products derived from wild plants native to the region.

The province continues to organise specialised training workshops covering bee propagation, modern extraction methods and pest control techniques aimed at improving productivity and ensuring the sustainability of apiaries. Field visits are also conducted to provide technical support, while specialised exhibitions help promote local honey products to consumers.

In addition, authorities are implementing an annual programme to distribute native pasture seedlings, including Samar, Sidr, Ghaf and other species, to expand natural grazing areas and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the sector.
