Russia presents the country's first academic journal on China
Journal "Russian Sinology" is dedicated to the study of ancient and contemporary China and Chinese culture
A press conference was held in Moscow to present the first academic journal about China in Russia titled "Russian Sinology". The press conference was organised by International Media Group Rossiya Segodnya.
The journal focuses on the study of ancient and contemporary China, Chinese culture and civilisation. It is scheduled to feature speeches by Chinese public figures, articles by prominent sinologists, translations of Chinese literary works, materials on the achievements of sinologists and much more.

Kirill Babaev, Acting Director of the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICMA RAS) and Chairman of the Journal's Editorial Board, stressed that Russia has never before had such a journal dedicated exclusively to China.
He noted that the publication plays a very important role, as there is now a need for a unifying project for Russian sinologists.
"This, of course, also affects scientific cooperation, and cooperation between various educational institutions, scientific centres. It is important for us to strengthen the attention of the Russian public to China, to Chinese civilization, to the study of what is now happening in the country and what the Sino-Russian relations are," he said.
Li Yongquan, director of the Institute for Social Development of Eurasia of the Development Research Center of China's State Council, said that the publication of the first edition of Russian Sinology marks a positive trend in the development of Chinese studies in Russia.
"I think that this journal will help readers to learn more about China and the friendly relations between Russia and China. Sino-Russian relations are of particular importance for both countries and the whole world. The development of this relationship requires joint efforts of Russian sinologists and Chinese russologists. We need the support of both governments in this matter," stressed Li Yongquan.
Kirill Babaev, Acting Director of ICMA RAS, answered the question of Anna Lisina, editor-in-chief of TV BRICS, what impact the country's first academic journal on China can have on the relationship between the BRICS countries.
According to him, it is very important to create such journals especially to promote relations in the BRICS format.
"It is important to learn what is going on in the countries of the association. The creation of such publications promotes cooperation and interaction between the five countries, and gives an idea of the issues that our countries are facing today. The scientific basis is necessary in order to build a more effective agenda for further work in the BRICS countries."
