Tehran and Jakarta advance plans for expanded scientific cooperation

Iran and Indonesia have agreed to deepen cooperation across the scientific, educational and cultural sectors following talks between Farhad Yazdandoost, Chairman of the Centre for International Scientific Cooperation at Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, and Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Roliansyah Sumirat.

During a meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to reinforce collaboration in higher education and research, as reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS. They discussed preparing new memoranda of understanding, launching joint research projects, exchanging academics and students, organising specialised meetings and dispatching academic delegations between the two countries. Participation in regional scientific programmes was also highlighted as a priority.

The officials further considered establishing a joint industrial and technological fund to support universities and research institutions in advancing scientific projects. Plans to create Persian-language teaching centres at Indonesian universities were raised as part of efforts to broaden cultural links.

Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening the role of universities in regional and international science diplomacy, particularly through active engagement in technical and vocational education and training and cooperation frameworks.
