The tomb of Cyrus the Great in Iran to be restored
Iran is revitalising its historical heritage
Cleaning and preliminary studies to strengthen and restore the outer walls of the tomb of Cyrus the Great, located west of the city of Madere Soleiman, are nearing completion. This was reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the source, the restoration of the tomb should begin within the next two weeks.
Environmental and biological factors are contributing to the deterioration of the outer walls of the majestic tomb, especially the environmental impact on the massive stone monument.
Factors such as climatic conditions, lichen and plant activity, material losses, weather conditions including frost, humidity, and precipitation, as well as cavities resulting from the activity of cyanobacteria that promote lichen growth – all this has led to damage to the site.
Currently, experts are assessing various types of damage caused to this facility.
The tomb of Cyrus the Great is a modest rectangular burial chamber, rising on a six-tiered pedestal. Its unique architecture is a totem of conquest, combining elements of all the major civilisations captured by Cyrus.
Experts report that the completion of this project is estimated to take two years, with an approximate budget of about US$170,000.
