Brazil believes that BRICS has potential to lead development of clean fuels

This statement was made at the opening of the 2nd BRICS Senior Energy Officials meeting under the Brazilian Chairmanship

Alexandre Silveira, Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy, emphasised the importance of balancing energy security, sustainable development and the transition to a low-carbon future.

Silveira believes that sharing best practices and developing joint projects can strengthen the BRICS' role in global governance. He emphasised that financing the energy transition is a key challenge and strategic discussions need to be advanced.

“The enlargement of the group shows our relevance and calls on us to strengthen the Global South. This requires better governance of energy cooperation to be more inclusive and sustainable. We need to coordinate our actions and ensure that the integration of new members strengthens our capabilities”

The Minister emphasised the need for resources for investment in infrastructure, renewable energy, and mineral research.

Finally, Silveira said BRICS is well placed to lead the development of clean fuels, highlighting the potential to implement different solutions and scale different technology routes, accelerating the decarbonisation of strategic sectors such as transport and industry.

Ethiopia's Ambassador to Brazil Leulseged Tadese underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in the BRICS platform to enhance energy security and energy efficiency to secure a more sustainable and prosperous future for the planet. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
