Brazil summarises environmental and climate policy achievements from 2023 to 2025

Brazil has summarised its public policy on environmental and climate protection for 2023–2025. The results were presented at the last ministerial meeting of 2025 in Brasilia. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS. 

The report was presented by Chief of Staff of the Brazilian Presidency Rui Costa. He noted that the environmental agenda has become an important part of government policy. The minister highlighted the reduction of deforestation, the expansion of environmental protection measures and the strengthening of climate governance.

According to data from the Legal Amazon Deforestation Satellite Monitoring Project (PRODES) of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), by 2025, deforestation in the Amazon had fallen by 50 per cent and in the Cerrado biome by 32.3 per cent compared to 2022. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change also noted the prevention of 733.9 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions through reduced deforestation and the restoration of 3.4 million hectares of natural vegetation. 

Rui Costa also stressed that during the reporting period, Brazil opened about 500 new international markets for agricultural products, which provided additional export revenue of US$3.4 billion. According to him, environmental policy has helped to strengthen confidence in the Brazilian agro-industrial sector in the global market.

Experts also noted that attention was paid to the resumption of the policy of recognising indigenous lands. In 2023–2025, the demarcation processes for 20 territories were completed, declarative decisions were made on 21 territories, and 10 new reservations were created – a total of 51 territories.
