Brazil wins 1st gold medal at Paris Olympics
Brazil has won one gold, three silvers and three bronzes at this edition of the Olympic Games
Beatriz Souza of Brazil captured gold in women’s judo +78kg at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 by a final score of 1-0, defeating Israel’s Raz Hershko, who took silver.
In a closely contested and tactical final, Souza from Sao Paulo state scored a waza-ari early in the match by throwing Hershko to the ground with an "Osoto-guruma" (Large outer wheel) maneuver. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
A waza-ari is the second highest score a fighter can achieve in judo.
So far, Brazil has won one gold, three silvers and three bronzes in this edition of the Olympic Games.
