China invites Russians to visit the cultural and tourist gem of Changchun

Features and appeal of the city for tourists discussed in Moscow

An event dedicated to the city of Changchun – the capital of Jilin Province and one of the geographical centres of Northeast Asia, ready to welcome tourists from Russia – was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Moscow.

Members of the Chinese delegation provided detailed information about the city’s tourist appeal, in view of the growing interest among Russians in travelling to the People’s Republic of China following the introduction of a visa-free regime.

As Zhao Hui, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Congress of the city, noted, Changchun combines industrial strength with cultural and tourist appeal: it is the home of renowned automobiles and the cradle of Chinese cinema (after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the first films were shot there).

“Changchun is an eco-friendly garden city, a romantic city of cinema, and a vibrant city of science and education. As an important city for cultural and tourist exchange between China and Russia, Changchun is open to the world and sincerely invites Russian tourists to travel and discover it for themselves,” said Jin Yong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism of Changchun.

Chairman of the city’s Tourism Association, Cui Yuanyu, also drew the attention of guests in Moscow to the beauty of Chinese nature. In his view, each season offers its own unique experiences.

“As we say, ‘Changchun is a place where all seasons are beautiful,’” he stated.

In the warmer months, tourists are attracted by picturesque lakes with green shores, equipped camping areas, and secluded parks, while in winter, the snow-covered landscapes become the main attraction.

Art, the city’s historical districts, its geographical features, and digital cultural and tourist platforms complement each other, according to the Chinese side. Combined with high-quality service, this lays a solid foundation for deep integration between Russia and China in the tourism sector.

“Cooperation in culture and tourism is not only a connecting thread of friendship but also a path to joint development,” emphasised Zhao Hui.

From 15 September 2025 to 14 September 2026, a trial visa-free regime for Russians is in effect in China. Russia responded with a reciprocal measure, introducing a visa-free regime for citizens of the People’s Republic of China from 1 December 2025 to 14 September 2026.
