Egypt records 15.6% rise in international tourist arrivals in first quarter of 2026

Growing visitor numbers strengthen Egypt’s ambition to attract 30 million tourists annually by the end of the decade

Egypt’s tourism sector continued its trajectory in early 2026, with international tourist arrivals increasing by 15.6 per cent during the first quarter compared with the same period last year.

The latest figures highlight sustained growth in one of the country’s key economic sectors and reinforce Egypt’s position as a leading travel destination in the Middle East and North Africa, reports Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The announcement was made by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, following a series of meetings with representatives of the travel industry and international tourism stakeholders. According to him, Egyptian authorities have introduced updated aviation support measures aimed at maintaining connectivity and sustaining growth in visitor numbers.

Officials have also intensified international promotional efforts, highlighting Egypt’s cultural heritage, coastal destinations and adventure tourism experiences. Recent campaigns have focused on authentic visitor experiences and the country's ability to offer a diverse range of attractions within a single journey.

As part of broader tourism development plans, the government is prioritising investment in accommodation capacity and enhancing quality standards across the hospitality sector.

Officials reaffirmed Egypt’s target of attracting 30 million international tourists annually by 2030, citing the country's unique combination of archaeological heritage, leisure tourism, natural attractions and modern infrastructure as major competitive advantages.
