The sector recorded higher international and domestic visitor numbers, alongside growth in tourism enterprises and employment

Ghana welcomed 1,306,962 international tourists in 2025, up from 1,288,804 the previous year. Tourism revenue generated by international arrivals reached US$4.34 billion, according to Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
Domestic tourism also recorded growth, with visits rising from 1.68 million in 2024 to 1.79 million in 2025, representing a 7 per cent increase. Gomashie outlined the sector’s contribution to economic development, employment and Ghana’s cultural identity, reports Ghana News Agency (GNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
The country’s 10 most visited attractions attracted a combined 1,377,588 visitors in 2025, accounting for almost 77 per cent of domestic tourism site visits nationwide.
The tourism sector also expanded its workforce and network of licensed enterprises. Star-rated hotels employed an average of 101 staff per establishment, comprising 80 full-time and 21 temporary employees. The number of licensed tourism enterprises increased from 6,702 in 2024 to 7,109 in 2025, representing growth of 6.1 per cent.
Travel trade enterprises recorded an 18.6 per cent increase during the year, supporting the development of tour operators, travel agencies, destination services, excursion businesses and other tourism intermediaries. According to Gomashie, the sector continues to generate income, create employment and strengthen Ghana’s international profile through its historical sites, national parks, beaches and cultural festivals.
