Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh held talks with Lao Minister of Culture and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket in Vientiane to review bilateral cooperation in culture and tourism during 2021–2025 and outline priorities for the 2026–2030 period, reports Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted positive results achieved over the past five years, including the organisation of cultural weeks, artistic performances, and commemorative events marking significant occasions for the two countries. The ministers noted that these activities contributed to strengthening the special relationship and strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The discussions also focused on future initiatives aimed at expanding exchanges between cultural institutions and tourism sectors. The two sides agreed to promote more delegation visits, music and art events, and collaborative projects related to heritage preservation, museums, libraries, and historical sites. Particular attention will be given to activities planned for the Vietnam – Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2027.

The ministers further emphasised the importance of workforce development through scholarships, training courses, and cooperation between educational institutions specialising in culture and the arts. These measures are expected to support cultural exchange, increase mutual understanding, and reinforce long-term bilateral cooperation.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two sides signed the Vietnam–Laos culture and tourism cooperation scheme for 2026–2030. Later the same day, the ministers co-chaired the opening ceremony of Vietnam Cultural Week in Laos 2026 in Vientiane, launching a programme of cultural and artistic events. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh noted that traditional Vietnamese water puppetry performances would present Lao audiences with elements of Vietnam’s cultural heritage and contemporary development.
