Chinese specialists present unique heat-resistant aluminium alloy
The material has a high creep and fracture resistance at a temperature of 500 degrees Celsius
The alloy was created by scientists from Tianjin University. They obtained a new material by introducing highly dispersed nanoparticles with a graphene-like coating. This was reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
They are able to significantly reduce surface energy. The tensile strength of the new aluminium alloy at a temperature of 500 degrees is about 200 megapascals. This is six times higher than that of existing aluminium alloys.
As noted by Professor He Chunnian of Tianjin University, the technological process of manufacturing the alloy of the new formula is simple, and the cost of materials is low.
According to the scientist, it is easy to produce on a large scale, which is of great importance for industrial applications. The novelty, according to experts, is of great importance primarily for the development of the aerospace industry.
Aluminium alloys have low density, corrosion resistance, and specific strength. Due to their unique performance properties, they are widely used in the aerospace industry.
However, their use is sometimes limited due to their relatively low heat resistance. The development of an aluminium alloy with a maximum operating temperature of 400 degrees remained an unfulfilled task. Thus, Chinese physicists have solved the difficult problem of materials science.
