Dubai adds 1,000 MW of clean energy capacity at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has marked a major milestone in 2025 by commissioning 1,000 megawatts (MW) of clean energy capacity as part of the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. With this addition, the sixth phase has reached a total capacity of 1,800 MW. This was reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS. 

The experts noted the achievement reflects the authority’s commitment to the vision of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, to accelerate the shift toward renewable energy and reinforce Dubai’s position as a global leader in sustainability and energy innovation.

DEWA emphasised that the progress aligns with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aim to supply 100 per cent of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by mid-century.

Launched in 2012, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is one of the UAE’s flagship strategic projects for renewable energy development, the source stated. Its current production capacity has reached 3,860 MW, with plans to exceed 8,000 MW by 2030, significantly above the initial target of 5,000 MW.

According to the experts, the expanded capacity is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 8.5 million tonnes annually.  DEWA also confirmed that a tender for the seventh phase of the solar park will be announced, while the remaining 800 MW of the sixth phase is scheduled to come online by the end of 2026.
