Iranian archaeologists discover 7,500-year-old artifacts

Petrographic and XRF analyses of Ubaid-style pottery connect Qeshlaq to the Urmia Lake basin, Mesopotamia, and even Anatolia

Archaeological excavations at Tappeh Qeshlaq have unearthed a treasure trove of artifacts dating back 7,500 years. The discoveries shed light on ancient trade networks and cultural practices of the early inhabitants.

The fourth research season at Qeshlaq Tappeh revealed over 14 metres of cultural deposits, with evidence linking the site to the 5th millennium BC and the Dalma culture. The findings include decorated Dalma pottery, obsidian tools pointing to connections with Turkey's Lake Van region, and seals indicating early ownership systems and social stratification.

Petrographic and XRF analyses of Ubaid-style pottery connect Qeshlaq to the Urmia Lake basin, Mesopotamia, and even Anatolia. These findings highlight its role as a key trade hub facilitating cultural and economic exchange. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The discoveries underscore the historical importance of Qeshlaq Tappeh as a centre for innovation, trade, and cultural evolution.
