Russia has secured a victory at the 3rd CIS Games, topping the medal table both in golds and overall awards. The Russian team claimed 231 medals in total, including 130 gold, 58 silver, and 43 bronze. This is reported by the official website of the Russian Government.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Sport Mikhail Degtyarev commended the team’s results, noting that the achievement reflects Russia’s long-standing sporting traditions.
“As President Vladimir Putin said, our country has always been and remains one of the world’s leading sporting powers, the birthplace of great athletes, victories and records. The brilliant performance of Russian athletes at the 3rd CIS Games fully proves these words. Russia became the absolute champion both in gold medals and in total awards. I congratulate the national team on this exceptional success and wish them new victories,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Russian delegation consisted of 249 athletes, who competed under the national flag and anthem across 20 sports disciplines. Russian athletes claimed every gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, and 3x3 basketball.
The tournament gathered participants from CIS member states as well as Cuba, Kuwait, and Oman.
For the first time in the Games’ history, competitions included Chovgan, the traditional equestrian game of the South Caucasus, and international archery tournaments.
Outstanding sporting achievements are being showcased by national teams from other BRICS countries and partner states at various international competitions. For instance, at the Asian Swimming Championships in Ahmedabad, India, Vietnamese swimmers recorded historic results. Nguyen Hoang won his country’s first-ever gold medal at a continental event, triumphing in the 1,500-metre freestyle. This was reported by the Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Iran’s women’s volleyball team made history by winning the Central Asian Championship for the first time. The team not only won all four matches of the tournament but also did not concede a single set to their opponents, according to a report by partner Alalam News Network.
Meanwhile, Belarusian sambists performed strongly at the World Youth Championships in Indonesia. On the opening day, Darya Novitskaya took gold in the under-65kg category for girls under 18, while Polina Lukyanchuk and Arseny Malitsky added two silver medals to the national team’s tally, according to BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.
