Tourist traffic to South Africa doubles in 2023

8.5 million people visited the country

Between January and December 2023, the number of international travellers arriving in South Africa was 8.5 million. This is a 48.9 per cent increase over the same period in 2022.

According to South Africa's national statistics agency (Stats SA), 6.4 million visitors from the African continent alone will visit the country in 2023, representing 75.6 per cent of total arrivals.

According to statistics, there has been a marked increase in the number of travellers from Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Between January and December 2023, South Africa also received 1.2 million tourist arrivals from Europe. There were 37,164 arrivals from other regions, particularly China, up 204.9 per cent from a year earlier.

South Africa's Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille said barriers restricting the development of the sector need to be removed. It is about imperfect visa rules and the lack of direct air links with many countries. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
