Zimbabwe ranks as one of five most educated countries in Africa

Zimbabwe celebrated International Literacy Day, highlighting its success in developing its education system and maintaining the status of one of the five most literate countries in Africa. This is reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.

The country has introduced a heritage-based education system that includes the country's 16 official languages. This system not only promotes indigenous languages but also allows learners to preserve their culture.

Ms Nisha, UNESCO Representative to the Republic of Zimbabwe and Regional Director of the Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA), highlighted Zimbabwe's achievements in literacy, saying the country is a shining example of commitment to literacy and education development.

“I am proud to reveal that Zimbabwe still remains among Africa`s top literate countries, a clear indication that the government is dedicated towards advancing literacy and education in our communities,” she said.

The Zimbabwean government has reiterated its commitment to promoting multilingual education by addressing the challenges of resourcing and recruiting teachers who speak different indigenous languages.
