Brazil and South Africa sign education partnership to strengthen basic learning

Brazil and South Africa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in basic education. The agreement was finalised during a meeting between Camilo Santana, Brazil’s Minister of Education, and Siviwe Gwarube, South Africa’s Minister of Basic Education.

According to the Brazilian Government official website, the accord reaffirms both nations’ commitment to strengthening public education and sharing best practices to improve learning outcomes.

The agreement outlines seven key areas of collaboration, including teacher and student exchanges, professional training, early childhood development and the sharing of education management systems. It also supports joint actions to reduce poverty and inequality through inclusive learning initiatives.

Santana described the meeting as a productive dialogue on shared challenges, highlighting the importance of early childhood education, literacy and inclusion. He also stressed that education has a transformative role in promoting equity and driving national development through anti-racist policies.
