Dubai to deploy additional 735 electric buses within year to advance sustainable transport

Authorities accelerate strategy to transition to zero-emission public transport by 2050

Dubai will receive 735 new electric buses, with deliveries to be completed in phases throughout 2026. This marks the largest batch of electric buses and the first initiative of such scale in the country, reports Emirates News Agency (WAM), a TV BRICS partner.

At present, 40 electric buses are already operating in Dubai. Their deployment forms part of a comprehensive programme to transition to environmentally friendly public transport, including electric and hydrogen-powered buses.

Infrastructure is being actively expanded to support the new fleet. A total of 32 charging units with a capacity of 360 kW have been installed, ensuring readiness for further expansion.

The performance of electric buses is assessed based on a range of technical and operational indicators, including driving range, charging time, frequency of recharging, noise levels and emission volumes.

One of the electric buses has been introduced on the key urban route F13, which transports passengers from a metro station to the Al Quoz Industrial Area. The vehicle is capable of travelling up to 370 km on a single charge and is equipped with a 470 kWh battery.

Particular attention is given to the efficiency of air conditioning systems and overall passenger comfort, which is essential for operation in urban conditions.

The report notes that in 2025, greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 12 per cent compared with 2024 and by 44 per cent compared with 2022. In addition, the use of electric buses has helped avoid more than 59,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Dubai authorities aim to reduce emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 and fully transition to zero-emission public transport in the long term.
