More than 30,000 people take part in Moscow Marathon

The 11th Moscow Marathon took place in the Russian capital. The TV BRICS International Media Network acted as an international media partner of the event.

This year's race became part of the BRICS Marathon League, which also includes similar competitions in St. Petersburg and Kazan. It is expected that in 2025 the format will be joined by championships held in other cities and countries of the association.

According to the organisers of the Moscow Marathon, in 2024 it became the most massive race in Russia. More than 30 thousand people took to the distance, some of whom came to the Russian capital from other countries, including Kenya, China, Morocco and Ethiopia.

The competition lasted two days. On October 12, athletes fought for leadership on the 10 kilometre section, and on the 13th – on the marathon distance of 42.2 kilometres. In addition, a children's race took place.

In addition to the overall competition, there were corporate and student relays. 127 and 41 teams took part in them respectively.

Various prizes awaited the winners and runners-up. Traditionally, the medals for the finalists depicted the city's landmarks. This year the awards were decorated with the domes of St. Basil's Cathedral.

Separate medals and badges were prepared for those runners who overcame all three BRICS Marathon League races or participated in this level of competition for the second time. There were 400 and 2,500 such athletes respectively.

In addition, the organisers took care of the comfort of spectators and fans. About 90 support zones worked for them.

An environmental initiative of the marathon was also launched. In particular, dishes and containers made of biodegradable materials were used at the catering and refreshment points. Masterclasses and lectures on conscious consumption and sustainable development were held.

The Moscow Marathon has been organised since 2013 with the support of the Moscow City Government.
