The First Sino-French Summer School on Carbon Neutrality and the China 2024 Carbon Accounting Database Summer Camp kicked off in Harbin
The event brought together experts, scholars and students from China and other countries to discuss and exchange views on carbon neutrality and carbon accounting. This is reported by Dongbeiwang, a partner of TV BRICS.
China has set a target to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. The forest area of Heilongjiang Province covers 20.12 million hectares, accounting for 8.7 per cent of the country's total forest area, ranking third in China.
Carbon stocks in the region's forest ecosystems amount to about 5.7 billion tonnes, making Heilongjiang a key region for achieving carbon reduction and carbon neutrality targets.
"We hope to explore ways to help Heilongjiang become an advanced province with a new quality of productive forces as a point of economic growth and utilise advantageous resources to achieve green development," said Guan Dabo, Deputy Director of Tsinghua Institute of Carbon Neutrality.
