Indonesia is developing an approach to education designed to make learning more effective and pupil-centred, according to ANTARA.
"We want to address the problems in our education sector at their root – starting with the learning approach we are developing, which we call Deep Learning," said Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti.
The approach is based on three principles: mindful, meaningful and engaging learning. The focus is not only on the knowledge pupils acquire, but also on how they perceive the learning process. The minister noted that every pupil, regardless of their academic performance or personal circumstances, should be treated with equal respect. According to him, the new approach aims to tackle educational problems at their very root – by changing teaching methods.
Tatang Muttaqin, Director General of Vocational Education, Special Education, and Special Services, stated that the development of this concept is important for vocational education, which must become more flexible and better suited to modern requirements.
From 22 July to 9 August 2026, a competition was held in Indonesia for teachers who are developing new teaching methods and seeking effective solutions to educational challenges. It involved 250 schools that had undergone training in this methodology in 2025. As a result, the 10 best projects across various categories were selected. The assessment took into account the entire process – from identifying the problem and selecting a teaching method to its specific impact on pupils.
