Russia to increase scholarships for Tunisian students and cover their tuition and living expenses

Russia is ready to fully cover the costs of tuition, accommodation, healthcare, travel and everyday needs for Tunisian students – from master's degree studies through to the defence of a doctoral thesis. This was stated by Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, reports Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), a TV BRICS partner.
According to the minister, expanding scholarship programmes for students from Tunisia is part of a strategy to make Russian education more accessible to foreign nationals. Falkov stressed that Moscow is open to dialogue and ready to consider any initiatives proposed by the Tunisian side, particularly those aimed at supporting the most successful students.
In addition, the head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education announced a gradual increase in the overall quota of government scholarships for foreign students, from the current 2,000 to 5,000 in the coming years. He also called on Tunisia to put forward more proposals for deepening cooperation in higher education, including through the establishment of branches of Russian universities.
As a successful example, Falkov cited the Cairo branch of Kazan Federal University, saying that this model could also be replicated in other countries.
At present, around 200,000 foreign students are studying at Russian universities. To promote academic mobility abroad, 35 branches of Russian universities have been opened, offering programmes in digitalisation, scientific research, medicine, pharmaceuticals and physics.
The statement was made following the conclusion of the fifth World Youth Summit in Kazan, which brought together around 250 delegates and 1,000 participants from 50 countries.
