Scientists discover herbal medicines in India
They were discovered on Brahmayoni Hill in Gaya, Bihar
A team of researchers has discovered many medicinal plants at Brahmayoni Hill in Gaya, among which Gymnema sylvestre, also known as Gurmar.
The country's largest research institution, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has already used this medicinal plant to develop an anti-diabetic drug. Gurmar is known for its unique ability to lower blood sugar levels due to the gymnemic acid it contains, which blocks receptors in the gut, reducing cravings for sweets.
Gurmar is one of the three medicinal plants found on the hill, which has been used for centuries by traditional healers to prepare various medicinal remedies. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
A study conducted in 2022 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, confirmed the efficacy of this herbal formula in reducing not only blood sugar levels but also obesity and improving the body's metabolism.
In addition to this, the researchers are pushing for the involvement of local people in the cultivation of the most commonly used medicinal herbs found on the hill to prevent their disappearance.
