South Africa's Minister of Water and Sanitation calls on private companies to co-operate on infrastructure projects

His department has taken measures to simplify bureaucratic procedures

South Africa's Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu has called on the country's private sector to co-operate with his department to speed up the implementation of multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects. This is reported by African Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The minister said the ministry has set up a special department to engage with private companies that can help modernise dams and water pipelines in conjunction with the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA).

Mchunu said the department had taken some measures to simplify bureaucratic procedures, namely the transfer of water services management powers from municipalities to water boards, non-governmental organisations and private companies.

The ministry has also authorised money from banks to finance water reallocation projects so that they can pay attention to other tasks besides bulk water supply.
