TV BRICS to present films from BRICS+ countries at International Film Festival in Samara

From 16 to 20 September, the 18th International Film Festival "Salt of the Earth" will take place in Samara. The TV BRICS International Media Network will showcase the work of filmmakers from BRICS+ countries, revealing the cultural and historical heritage, traditions and modern life of various peoples.

TV BRICS special screenings are scheduled for 16 September and will be open to school and grammar school students, among others.

Among the films to be presented are "Discovering Ofala" (2023, Nigeria, director – Tochukwu Nwaiwu), dedicated to the ancient rite of awarding Igwe chieftains; "Caribbean Festival. Fire Festival" (2024, Cuba, director – Enrique Fumero), about a large-scale musical and theatrical festival; and the short film "Therukoothu" (2025, India, director – Vijay Bhaskaran), about traditional South Indian street theatre. In addition, viewers will be able to see the film "Mergulho" (2020, Brazil, director – Kellen Casara) about the lives of Paralympic athletes and the joint Russian-Iranian work "Written Heritage" (2024, director – Emir Valinezhad), dedicated to Muslim manuscripts and the history of science and art.

TV BRICS film screenings promote the development of international cultural dialogue and strengthen ties between peoples. The festival provides a platform for promoting documentary films reflecting social and humanitarian themes. TV BRICS' participation enhances the festival's status on the international stage. This attracts new viewers and expands professional connections," noted Maria Serkova, President of the IFF "Salt of the Earth".

According to the organisers, this year the festival received more than 500 submissions. The competition includes 50 documentary films, which will be presented in five categories: "Here and Now", "Times are not chosen", "Russian Cathedral", "Honour thy father and thy mother", and "Quo Vadis?". A total of 72 films will be screened.

The aim of the event is to support and unite documentary filmmakers committed to universal human values. Festival guests will be able to attend the opening ceremony, screenings of competitive and non-competitive films and special film programmes, thematic and creative meetings, as well as the awards ceremony for the winners.

The founder of the film festival is the Samara Regional Public Fund "Volga Historical and Cultural Foundation". with the support of the government of the Samara Region, the administration of the city of Samara and the Club of Honorary Citizens of the Region.
