The Art of Sport. Wrestling and Sculpture
The first series of the The Art of Sport project is dedicated to Greco-Roman wrestling.
In what ways is a wrestler’s honing of their skills akin to a sculptor’s work with stone or clay? What is more important during a bout – form or substance? And why must a true master be able to sculpt not only their own body, but also their spirit?
Olympic champion Davit Chakvetadze will share his story. Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, will discuss the origins and future prospects of the sport. And sculptor Aleksander Spiridonov will draw parallels between the victories of an athlete and those of an artist.
